Questioning the Status Quo

From an early age he had an immense appreciation for his family's service and hard work, yet he found himself questioning logical inconsistencies that he found within the Vedic philosophy. His teachers, elders and well known scholars of the time were unable to provide him with satisfying answers and suggested that he would find his answers in the state of Samadhi (a meditative state that culminates in the practice of absolute concentration).

Journey to Amarkantak

In 1950 he and his wife embarked on a journey to Amarkantak in Madhya Pradesh, India to pursue this. While he spent his time focused on meditative practices, his wife took care of the children and harvested plants, roots and shoots from the forest and eventually they both engaged in farming to fulfill their physical needs.

The Search for Answers

He dedicated twenty years of his life to seek answers through this meditative process and finally attained Samadhi in 1970, only to find that despite the advice of his elders, no answers emerged in this state. He then went on to practice an improvised version of the next step in the meditative practice beyond Samadhi, called Sanyam.

Observation & Realization

It was during this state that he engaged in a focused five-year serious study and observation of nature, which culminated in realizing the inherent order of the existence. Here, for the first time, he obtained the answers to his questions and much more.

The Discovery of
Madhyasth Darshan

He became aware that the entire existence coexists in a harmonious system and that there is an inherent harmony from the atomic to cosmic level. He discovered that each entity is useful and complementary to each other and has a unique way in which it ensures balance in the existence.

He proposed that with proper education, humans can understand this inherent coexistence, align their living accordingly and in turn, participate harmoniously within family, society and in systems that enable harmony on the planet. From this discovery, a new philosophy called Madhyasth Darshan (Worldview of Harmonious Coexistence) was introduced to the world.

Living the Understanding

From 1950-2016, A. Nagraj lived together with his intergenerational family in Amarkantak. His living was a great inspiration to thousands of people from around the world. He dedicated his life to sharing and living this understanding and their home was always open to those who sought to understand.

A. Nagraj has written extensively on education, economics, psychology, governance, etc. in a collection of over 13 books. Programs based on this worldview by the name of 'Jeevan Vidya' have been implemented into numerous colleges, universities and centres across India.
